The Believers, Plymouth Theatre Royal, The Drum

What an astonishing performance.

This was truly inventive theatre. It takes you by surprise at every corner, and succeeds in whipping you up into the frenzy reflected in the plot.

This production is like an artistic piece of expert cross examination. It guides you down the path. You nod at it. Agree with it. But it doesn't reveal it's sucker punch until right at the very end. By that point, you have agreed so often that if you disagree you seem foolish, and if you agree you are damned.

The simple yet imaginative staging has stuck with me. The requirement for all of the actors to work together in ensuring that the staging worked to its full effect was mesmerising. It did not detract from the plot, rather it enhanced it. This is by far the best show that I have seen at the Drum theatre in many moons.

I would urge anyone who likes dramatic, non-standard theatre and brilliant acting to go and see this show. You won't regret it. My friends and I are still talking about it weeks later.
