Singin' In The Rain- The Lyric, Plymouth Theatre Royal

This has to be one of the best shows I have ever seen. Captivating from start to soggy finish.

The music was perfect- the band were a treat, each soloist put so much of themselves into their songs and so much emotion into them that it was impossible not to be swept along with their story. The chorus was equally fantastic. Every one of them succeeded in telling the story with vibrancy, clarity and energy.

The dancing was, as you would expect, nothing less than perfect, and the costumes complemented each dance beautifully, allowing flowing skirts which moved gracefully during romantic scenes, and fringed dresses which gave pronounced passion and vigour to more upbeat numbers. They also helped to set the era, which was clear throughout the performance.

The rain was tremendous. I am fairly certain that the front row got rather wet!

I was equally impressed with the gentle humour which oozed through the very pores of this show. There was nothing brash about this performance. It was both classy and exquisite. My cheeks ached from smiling at the end, and they received a tremendous standing ovation at the end.

I was startled that the auditorium was not full to bursting. This is definitely a show that everyone should go and see, and probably the best show I have seen on the ANLO scheme.
