Barbershopera- El Matador: A Christmas Close Shave
Sold-out shows, unbelievable close-harmony singing, fluid story-telling and a truly innovative performance by four very talented actors. I was captivated throughout, laughed so hard that I cried, and went home still singing the songs.
Featuring:
Rob Castell, as Esteve
Lara Stubbs, as Vicky and Nancy
Will Kenning, as Trevor & Matty
Pete Sorel-Cameron, as Rod & Alfie
Their characterisation, exquisite singing, hilarious lyrics and fast-paced storyline was out of this world. Everyone in the audience had a thoroughly brilliant evening. They deserve to be in the Lyric rather than in the Drum, and I am sure they would sell-out there too.
I went on the recommendation of a friend, who had seen the show earlier in the week, and I am so glad I did. I would recommend this show to everyone I know, because it truly does have something for everyone. However- if you haven't already got a ticket it's too late for those in Plymouth as they are now sold-out for the rest of the run!
Particular commendation goes to Lara Stubbs, who shone on stage yesterday evening.
What made this show particularly spectacular for me, was the ability of all of the actors to continue through adversity. When performing farsical scenes, things inevitably go wrong. The actors deal with small hiccups. They had to. They were all on stage throughout. There was nowhere to hide. The committed to every situation with enthusiasm and energy.
I look forward to seeing more of Barbershopera and hope that they return to Plymouth in the not-too-distant future.
