The premise was interesting, and the acting was of a high calibre; but somehow I failed to be blown away by this performance.
I found that the storyline stagnated at points, and there was so much angst that the arguments seemed to merge into one shouting match.
There were some lighter moments, brought about by moments between two friends. There were heartfelt moments between brothers. But I did not feel that the relationship between Grandfather and Granddaughter was as full as it could have been, and this left the performance feeling rather flat for me.
I found the minimilistic setting slightly distracting, and I frequently found myself wondering if people lower down were able to see the scene, as actors frequently had their backs to the audience for entire scenes.
Of particular note were Candice and Clint, whose relationship stole the show. The slightly humerous portrayal of Clint gave us some reprieve from the generally argumentative nature of the show, and provided a platform for the much hinted about revelation- provided in such a manner I half expected an Eastenders-style duff duff at the end!
Overall, worth a watch but not one I will be raving about.
5/10
