Fight Night- Theatre Royal, The Drum
We were handed voting machines, took our seats and the play began. I was honestly expecting something to do with boxing. That is not what I got.
I got humour, some crudeness, and rather lengthy (and occasionally preachy) monologues. Although I wasn't overly enamoured by the breaking of the fourth wall, the use of the stage or indeed the characters, I found myself becoming more and more passionate about what the candidates spoke about. We knew we were choosing which one we preferred, so that they could win. But we were not told why.
When given the option to either vote for the only standing candidate, or to hand in my voting equipment, I was rather shocked at the result- yet I still felt impassioned and victorious upon leaving.
I would recommend this to people of voting age. It second guesses you and makes you think twice about the decisions we make, and why we make them.
I have never been to see a more intriguing show.
