MTV Crashes Plymouth- Centenary Celebrations

Plymouth Hoe was stormed by more than 20,000 people yesterday evening, as MTV well and truly crashed Plymouth. The beautiful setting was rather at odds with such a noisy event, but the performers and patrons seemed to really enjoy themselves.

On stage were the following acts:

Keisza- Although she was very energetic, and had a stomach which made me feel like dropping and giving her 20 crunches there and then, I was slightly underwhelmed by this performance. I will admit that I only knew one of the songs, and so that may have clouded my judgement considerably. However, I felt that the crowd did not participate in the performance, and the structured dancing made it difficult for the crowd to let loose.

The 1975- I wonder if there were some technical difficulties during their set, which meant that I could not hear a single word they sang. It was entirely overpowered by the guitar. One girl at the front seemed to enjoy it very much though- it brought her to tears to joy!

Example- He really got the party started, and the crowd began to act as one. It was very enjoyable being part of the wave of jumping people and swinging arms. He was sincere during his set, but also a lot of fun.

The Kaiser Chiefs- What an ending. The people who left early missed a treat. They played some of their more famous songs, and even updated a song just for Plymouth: "Oh my God I can't believe it- we've never done a gig on Plymouth Hoe!" They got the whole crowd involved and it was a lot of fun.

This was well-organised and great fun (although the sniffer dogs appear to have had blocked noses because I could certainly smell illegal substances during the performance!)

I'm thrilled to have been a part of it, and for a bargain price!

Today on Plymouth Hoe, local bands will be playing. I am lead to believe that this includes the infamous Mad Dog McCrea!

I certainly hope that Plymouth County Council take the Boo's proferred in good humour, and organise such an event again as it was certainly worth while and definitely worth the £6.50 ticket!
